(2350) Prestressed dam
A concrete dam placed in compression with high tensile iron bars/weirs placed in holes/shafts in the body of the dam in the upstream portion anchored in the foundation and stretched from the end of the bar/wire at the top of the dam and encasing them with concrete in these holes/shafts. Thus, these post-terminated bars lend a pre-loading compressive strength to the dam. This treatment allows thinner cross-section than that of a purely gravity dam (illustrated).
